In the absence of Hh, Sxl is retained in the cytoplasm bound to microtubules in a complex with Fu, {gamma}-tubulin and Cos2. The Hh signal is proposed to release the complex from microtubules, but in germ cells may be transduced through a homolog of Ptc or Smo (see Discussion). Some of the Sxl moves into the nucleus (PKA reduces this) while the majority of Sxl, {gamma}-tubulin and Fu, are degraded.
