Fig. 3. Pericytes and endothelial cells within the sciatic nerve are not neural crest derived. Sciatic nerves were dissected from P11 Wnt1-CreloxpRosa+ and Wnt1-Cre+loxpRosa+ pups, and immunohistochemically stained for ß-gal (green), the endothelial marker PECAM1 (blue), and the pericyte marker SMA (red). Although most cells in the endoneurial space were ß-gal+, both the PECAM1+ endothelial cells and the SMA+ pericytes consistently failed to co-label with ß-gal.
