We used somites as morphological landmarks (outlined in yellow) to assess the abundance of PGCs along the hindgut. We also determined the maximal PGC migration distance by measuring the distance from the base of the allantois (arrowhead), where PGCs originate, to the migration front situated rostrally along the anterior hindgut (arrow).
