In a sequential model, laminins interact preferentially with integrins in
newly formed oligodendrocytes (1) during the regulation of survival and
process outgrowth, and preferentially with dystroglycan during the later
stages (2), such as myelin membrane formation. (B) In a parallel model,
laminins interact with both integrins and dystroglycan to promote myelin
membrane formation, but receptor crosstalk or signaling changes can alter the
relative contribution of each receptor during distinct oligodendrocyte
developmental stages.
