Movie 1
A group of migrating primordial germ cells (PGCs) at late gastrulation in the hypoblast of an embryo injected with GFP-nos1-3¢UTR to label the PGCs and EGFP-F-globin to label the boundaries of somatic cells. The movie spans 30 minutes, with pictures taken every 2 minutes. Individual PGCs are labeled with colored asterisks and a single somatic cell with a green arrow. Cell shape changes of somatic cells are largely due to different focal planes at which the pictures were taken to keep the PGCs in focus. Note that the PGCs exhibit highly dynamic migratory behavior relative to somatic cells

Movie 2
The main primordial germ cell (PGC) cluster on the left side of an embryo injected with EGFP-F-nos1-3¢UTR to label the plasma membrane of PGCs. Anterior is towards the left. The movie starts at about the six-somite stage and spans 3 hours and 23 minutes with pictures taken every 45 seconds. The plane of focus was adjusted twice during this time. Note that several PGCs migrate actively relative to others, although during this time the whole cluster does not move along the anteroposterior axis and slowly converges towards the midline. All PGCs, also those that do not show any net movement, exhibit highly dynamic cellular processes, including filopodia that can extend to lengths of more than one cell diameter.

Movie 3
The main primordial germ cell (PGC) cluster on the right side of an embryo injected with full-vasa-GFP, anterior is upwards. PGCs contain strongly fluorescent perinuclear granules of localized Vasa-GFP protein. The movie spans 100 minutes starting at mid-somitogenesis (around the 12-somite stage) with pictures taken every minute. Note that the PGCs migrate posteriorwards relative to the somites (one somite-boundary is marked with a black line). PGCs migrate as individual cells, which change their positions relative to each other. The movie stops before the cluster has reached its final position.
