Movie 1

A dorsal view of three neurulating Xenopus embryos (stage 16-21). The left embryo is expressing Xdd1 and fails to close its tube (open-NT). The middle embryo is also expressing Xdd1 but successfully closes its neural tube (closed-NT). The right embryo is an uninjected control.

Movie 3

A higher magnification dorsal view of a neurulating control embryo from stage 16-21.

Movie 4

A higher magnification dorsal view of an Xdd1 open-NT embryo from stage 16-21. Note the robust medially directed movement of surface cells, similar to that seen in controls (see Movie 3).

Movie 5

Four embryos followed though gastrulation and neurulation (stage 11.5-22.0). Gastrula stages are seen from the vegetal view. As neurulation begins, the embryos are shifted to present a dorsal view. Top left embryo is an Xdd1-injected open-NT embryo. Lower left is an uninjected control. Right embryos are Xdd1 closed-NT embryos.
