Simplified scheme of convergent extension in the mesoderm of Xenopus
during gastrulation. Cells become polarised in a bipolar fashion on the
mediolateral axis and intercalate, such that they converge together on the
mediolateral axis and the tissue extends on the anteroposterior axis.
