midgut (B), as does the D. melanogaster XC enhancer (A), although at

pseudoobscura (pseu) and D. virilis (vir) sequences. Sequences
in red emphasize sequence identity. Two long stretches of sequence
conservation are boxed in yellow. Consensus binding sites are indicated in
