Fig. S1. GFP+ neurons and Tag1+ fibers in the E13.5 lateral cortex. (A) Fluorescent micrograph of GFP+ neurons in the lateral cortex and the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE). In addition to dense localization of GFP+ neurons in the LGE, streams of the neurons can be seen in the cortex. (B) Tag1+ fibers in the same microscopic view. (C) Merged view of A,B. There is no tendency for GFP+ neurons to associate with Tag1+ fibers. Dorsal is towards the top. Scale bar: 100 mm.
Movie 1. GFP-positive neurons migrating in an E13.5 coronal slice. This movie corresponds to Fig. 2A in the text. Robust tangential migration can be observed in the lower intermediate zone but not in the marginal zone. The movie was taken at 5 minutes intervals for 95 minutes with a confocal microscope. Dorsal is upwards and lateral is towards the right. See Materials and methods, and legend to Fig. 2 for details.
Movie 2. GFP-positive neurons migrating in an E15.5 coronal slice. This movie corresponds to Fig. 2B,C in the text. Robust tangential migration can be observed in the lower intermediate and subventricular zones. Non-tangential migration including radial migration can occasionally be found. Some neurons migrate in a medial-to-lateral direction, opposite to the direction of most migrating neurons. The movie was taken at 5 minutes intervals for 105 minutes with a confocal microscope. Dorsal is upwards and lateral is towards the right. See Materials and methods, and legend to Fig. 2 for details.
Movie 3. Dorsal view of GFP-positive migrating neurons in a flat-mount preparation of E13 neocortex. This movie corresponds to Fig. 3A-C in the text. Although there are migrating neurons, GFP-positive neurons do not show lateral-to-medial migration as a whole. The movie was taken at a 5 minutes interval for 100 minutes with a confocal microscope. Medial is upwards and anterior is towards the left. See Materials and methods, and legend to Fig. 3 for details.
Movie 4. Dorsal view of GFP-positive neurons migrating in a flat-mount preparation of E13.5 neocortex. This movie corresponds to Fig. 3D,E in the text. Although many neurons show migration, they do not show lateral-to-medial migration as a whole. The movie was taken at a 5 minutes interval for 120 minutes with a confocal microscope. Dorsal is upwards and anterior is towards the left. See Materials and methods, and legend to Fig. 3 for details.
