Movie 1. The weak
atrium (wea) locus is
required for atrial, but not ventricular, contractility. QuickTime movie shows
lateral views of live embryos at 48 hours post-fertilization (hpf), anterior to
the left. Footage shows a wild-type embryo and then a wea-mutant sibling embryo, first with an atrial plane of
focus and then with a ventricular plane of focus. Chamber contractions and
blood flow are apparent. The wea
mutant atrium does not contract normally, but the wea mutant ventricle maintains a normal contractile
rhythm. A blood pool caudal to the atrium indicates inefficiency of circulation
in wea mutants.
