This arrangement of mutant and wild-type embryos is also used for B-E and for Fig. S2, with the exception of the bottom portions of 1B, C and D, and 2B and C, where the left panels are CrebA heterozygotes (note lacZ expression), middle panels are CrebA homozygotes and the right panels are fkh homozygotes, all in early stages (~stage 11), oriented with anterior to left and showing lateral views. All other panels in Figs S1 and S2 represent approximately stage 13-14 embryos oriented with anterior to the left and showing ventral views. Srp subunit (B) and SR subunit (C) gene expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh (late) and CrebA. (D) sec61-b, sec61-g, sec62, sec63, sec71, TRAM and TRAPd gene expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh and CrebA. However, appreciable amounts of sec62, sec63, TRAM and TRAPd can still be detected in fkh mutants even at late stages. (E) SPCG expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh (late) and CrebA. The salivary gland expression of all the tested genes in this category in hkb mutants was comparable to that of wild-type salivary glands.

(A) p24 transmembrane family gene expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh (late) and CrebA. (B) COPII coatomer gene expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh (late) and CrebA. Very low levels of COPII subunit expression were detected in CrebA mutants. (C) COPI component gene expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh (late) and CrebA. Low levels of d-Cop and g-Cop, and very low levels of z-Cop and e-Cop expression were detected in CrebA mutants. KDEL-R expression in the salivary gland is controlled by fkh (late) and by CrebA. The salivary gland expression of all the tested genes in this category in hkb mutants was comparable to that of wild-type salivary glands.
