Fig. S1. Vessel enlargement is associated with increased
numbers of endothelial cells and endothelial cell proliferation. (A,B) Tracheal
vessels were stained with a monoclonal antibody against CD31 (green), which
selectively stains endothelial cell junctions, and a nuclear stain (ToPro3 –
not shown for clarity) to mark individual cells. The number of endothelial
cells around the vessel circumference (asterisks) was assessed. More
endothelial cells per circumference were found in tracheal vessels following treatment
with ANG14FD. (C,D) BrdU labeling of tongue vessels in paraffin
sections shows enlarged vessels and endothelial cell proliferation (arrows)
following treatment with ANG14FD. Additional labeling with BrdU was
found in the basal epithelial cells (arrowheads), but these cells were present
in tissue from both control and ANG14FD-treated mice.
