Movie 1. Time-lapse movie produced from level 13 (depth 12 µm into the embryo) of a 4D-recording of an embryo (embryo 5, not shown in the other analyses) of Thulinia stephaniae using DIC optics. The video ends at 8 hours of development when terminal differentiation was already initiated. The animal hatched 82 hours later.
Movie 2. The movie shows the development of an embryo of C. elegans (embryo 1) (Schnabel et al., 1997) using the ‘3D-representation’ feature of SIMI°Biocell. The spheres correspond to the position of the nuclei. Playing the movie the cell migrations forming the regions of the embryo can be seen. Colour code for the cell lineages is: dark blue, ABala; light blue, ABara; violet, ABalp; pink, ABarp; dark green, ABpla; dark yellow, ABplp; light green, ABpra; light yellow, ABprp; grey, MS; brown, E; red, C; turquoise, D; dark grey, initially P3 then Z2 and Z3 (germline precursors). The video starts at the 12-cell stage and ends at the premorphogentic stage (383 cells). Please refer to the main text and Schnabel et al. (Schnabel et al., 1997) for further information.
Movies 3-5. The movies show the early development of embryos 1 to 3 of Thulinia stephaniae using the ‘3D-representation’ feature of SIMI°Biocell. The spheres correspond to the position of the nuclei. For colour code see legend to Fig. 2. By playing the video stepwise using the left or right cursor the cell divisions and the positions of cells can be analysed and the variability of the embryogeneses can be seen.
