Movie 1. Animated stack of a complete series of optical sections through a stage 8 oocyte. The red arrow tracks MT fibers from the central AP subset back to anterior cortex and the nucleus. The green arrow tracks MT fibers from the cortical DV MT subset back to the oocyte nucleus (nuc). The white arrow follows DV MT bundles from the proximal to the distal cortex, demonstrating that MT bundles run cortically. The open circle highlights MT extremities (plus ends) in the center, as once they appear they can be followed only in one direction. Optical sections every ~0.2 mm. Some of the cortical fibres does not seem to be connected to the oocyte nucleus. Thus, the DV subset comprises long fibres connetced to the oocyte nucleus, as well as shorter cortical fibres that extend from the cortex towards the centre of the oocyte.
