Fig. S1. Caudal cortex is
disrupted in hem-ablated mice. Coronal
sections from E18.5 control or hem-ablated mice, processed for Reln, SCIP (Pou3f1) or Tbr1 at two
caudal levels of the cerebral cortex. Reln+ cells are dense in the neocortical MZ of control mice but almost
undetected in hem-ablated mice. In the latter, the hippocampus is missing
because of the lack of a Wnt3a signal from the hem. However, the caudal cortex
is highly dysmorphic in other ways. Expression patterns of Pou3f1and Tbr1 are
increasingly abnormal further caudal in the cortex, but are not inverted
relative to one another as in reeler
mice. Interdigitated patches of expression (arrowheads) appear to mark
abnormally clustered cells.
