(A) egl-43, fos-1, him-4, hlh-2 and zmp-1 form a regulatory network necessary for the AC to invade vulval epithelium. (B) hlh-2 is involved in AC/VU specification by expressing lag-2 and egl-43. The same type of enhancer (ACEL) is responsible for the expression of lin-3 and egl-43 in the AC, which are essential for the induction of VPCs and AC invasion.
