Neurons in these positions are much rarer in the corresponding mutant section (F). C shows neurons that reached deep layers of the cortical plate; in the corresponding region of the mutant (G), no cells are seen. (D) Subcortical fiber bundles (along which calretinin-positive cells migrate from ganglionic eminences to cortex at earlier stages); no cells are seen here in the wild type.
