  Fig. S1. The effect of BMP2 and NOG beads is monitored by the expression of Msx2. (A-F) The application of a BMP2 bead upregulates Msx2 expression (A-C), whereas a NOG bead abolishes the endogenous posterior expression domain of Msx2 (D-F). The effect is clearly marked at 3 and 6 hours, and almost terminated by 15 hours.

  Fig. S2. Comparison of the endogenous domains of Shh, Bmp2, Bmp7 and Bmp4 during wing bud development. (A-D) Expression of the three BMP genes is activated before that of Shh. Bmp2 (B) and Bmp7 (C) domains overlap with that of Shh (A) whereas Bmp4 (D) diverges particularly at later stages.
