Fig. S1. Sun1 is required for the development of reproductive organs in mice. (A) Analysis of the expression of Sun1 in somatic tissues and reproductive organs in adult mice by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The expression of Sun1 was detectably higher in mouse testis than in somatic organs. Gapdh expression was used for normalization. (B) The gross appearance and body weight of Sun1+/+ and Sun1−/− mice. No apparent differences were observed. (C) The gross appearance of 4-month-old Sun1+/+ and Sun1−/− female reproductive organs. (D) TUNEL assay for 4-week-old Sun1+/+ and Sun1−/− mouse testis. Sun1−/− germ cells frequently showed TUNEL-positive staining. (E) H&E staining of ovaries from 4-week-old Sun1+/+ and Sun1−/− mice. Growing oocytes were abundantly seen in Sun1+/+ female mice, but oogenesis in Sun1−/− animals was not observed.
