About the Cover
Cover: The cover picture shows a living zebrafish embryo 26 hours after fertilization, surrounded by its chorion. The embryo is homozygous for a mutation in the spiel-ohne-grenzen (spg) gene, which encodes the POU domain transcription factor Pou2 related to mammalian Oct3/Oct4. In the absence of this gene, the midbrain-hindbrain boundary and the organizer located within it are not formed due to an inability of the mutants to respond to Fgf8. For further details, see the articles by S. Burgess, G. Reim, W. Chen, N. Hopkins and M. Brand, and G. Reim and M. Brand in this issue, 905-916 and 917-933.
