About the Cover
Cover: Histological section through the eye and optic nerve of an embryonic day 14 mouse embryo. In situ hybridization studies reveal the presence of mRNA encoding the transmembrane semaphorin Sema5A at the optic nerve head/disc region and along the optic nerve. Sema5A forms an inhibitory sheath around growing retinal axons to ensure the integrity of the optic nerve during development. For further details see article by S. F. Oster, M. O. Bodeker, F. He and D. W. Sretavan, in this issue, pp. 775-784.
