About the Cover
Cover: The skeleton of the carapace of the soft-shelled turtle Pelodiscus sinensis. The carapace is based on the ribs that have shifted their positions dorsally and laterally. Development of the carapace begins as the carapacial ridge, the turtle-specific primordium formed of somite-derived dermis, arises on the lateral aspect of the flank.
