Cover: Image of a Xenopus tail bud shown 7 days after amputation. No regeneration took place because the tail was irradiated, killing proliferating cells. Importantly, axons (red) still elongated out towards the bud, showing that cell proliferation is not required for axonal patterning during regeneration.
