Summary
Hensen's node in the chick embryo contains prospective cells in a down triangle-shaped midline region of the prospective medial half somite cells in the lateral node mesoderm, whilst lateral somite cells are derived part of the primitive streak (Selleck and Stern, 626, 1991). In the present study, we have investigated of these mesoderm cells to their fates by grafting regions of the node and primitive streak. By this way, we have attempted to discover whether and somite cells can change their fates. We find that cells in the midline down triangle-shaped portion of when grafted into a different region, continue to notochord, or form a separate notochord-like the prospective somitic cells do not appear to be somitic fate.
